Joist spacing for composite decking

Precautions for wood-plastic profiles during installation

A. Regarding the space during installation of wood-plastic composite materials, considering the drainage, cleaning, and slight thermal expansion and contraction, proper space must be left between the edges and the head to the head during installation.

B.

▪ edge to edge: wood-plastic profiles require ≥ 4 mm from side to side;

The size of the gap between the head and the head of the plastic wood profile depends on the length of the profile, the temperature at the time of installation, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the profile (ζ≈0.9×10-4), and the highest possible temperature in the area.

Head-to-head gap calculation:

For a L-meter long profile, the maximum possible temperature in a year is Tmax, and the temperature at the time of installation is T, then the gap that the head should retain when installing the profile:

        ΔL=ζ×(Tmax−?T)×L.

 For example: a 2 meter long profile with a temperature of 10 ° C on the day of installation and a temperature of 40 ° C on the hottest day of the year, then the gap should be retained when the profile is installed:

        △L=ζ×(Tmax-?T)×L=2000×(40-10)×0.9

Note: The plastic profile must be installed with proper clearance and installed directly on the keel. Do not attach the wood veneer directly to any solid surface, such as concrete, roof slabs or roofs.
